Adult Sunday School classes
Adult Sunday School classes have long been groups filled with meaningful growth and fellowship in the Methodist Church. The following is a list of the current adult Sunday School classes and a brief description of who they are and how they see themselves. But like every small group, you don't really know a lot about them until you visit them. So go and see what they are really like and find a place to grow alongside other members of the KUMC community of faith.

Joy Class
8:30 a.m. G229
Adults ages 55+; led by Doug Chapman and Dale Nierode. Mission activities include support for Young Life, Rebuilding Together Houston, and Society of St. Stephen. A variety of social activities are planned monthly. Contact persons: Don Barksdale.
Agape/ Koinonia Class
9:40 a.m. G128
This class is comprised of men and women, ages 50+, who enjoy the study of the Bible. Studies include discussion of passages in context with Biblical times contrasted with today’s world. Thought provoking questions generated by class members create an interesting, open environment in which to better understand God’s Word. Various social activities are planned throughout the year. Class members are involved in a variety of mission projects both within the church community and in support of missionaries. Contact persons: David Dickson or Bob Smith.
Aldersgate Class
9:40 a.m. K105
Adults ages 40+; members of the class take turns leading studies. Frequent social events are held throughout the year with Sunday brunches scattered throughout. This class supports Rebuilding Together Houston, the Methodist Children’s Home in Waco, UMARMY and other mission projects. Contact person: Richard Spell.
Apostles Class
9:40 a.m. G222/223
Adults ages 30-55+; led by Dale Ross. Alongside faith-strengthening studies and wonderful fellowship, the Apostles class supports the Wertz African mission, Laura Statesir with Young Life in the Dominican Republic, Pharr Community Outreach Project, UMARMY, Society of St. Stephen and Room to Grow. Covenant Class
9:40 a.m. G226
A group of adults with adult children lparticipate in this class, which studies great books by well-known authors. We regularly support the Society of St. Stephen and other calls for help as the need arises. Anyone is welcome to join us. Contact person: Janet Gatjen.
Disciples Class
9:40 a.m. K104
Adults ages 30’s – 50’s, with newborns to adult children. Class members take turns leading class discussions. Fellowship activities include Sunday brunches, couples and separate men’s and women’s activities, and family oriented activities. Many mission projects are supported by this class. One of the hallmarks of this class is their caring, nurturing community. Contact person: Shahab Parva.
Family Matters
9:40 a.m. K101
Couples ages 20+. This new group meets to discuss current topics and literature pertaining to Christian parenting and strengthening marriages.

Class members are parents of young children so class discussions usually tie our study topic back to our family life. We enjoy sharing each others' experiences of raising a family and offer support to each other in the challenges that endeavor brings. Our discussions often include humorous child rearing antecdotes!

Friendship Class

Faithful and faith-filled mature adult women who study a variety of books. Social activities are planned for once a month. The Friendship class supports the Society of St. Stephen, Room to Grow and the Pharr Community Outreach Project. Contact person: Marguerite Moore.
Genesis Class
9:40 a.m. G229
Adults ages 25-40 most with young elementary children. Led by Dennis Vaughn, this class spends time in bible study each week. The class is involved in various service projects and has many opportunities for fellowship with members – couples as well as separate men’s and women’s activities. Contact person: Janell O’Shea.
New Dimensions Class (Mid-40's & On)
Class Meeting 9:40 a.m. Koinonia Center K103
Single adults ages 45+. The mission of this class is to provide support and companionship for singles within a Christian community. We offer a means for Christian singles to come together in an accepting, loving forgiving environment – recognizing that each individual may be at a different place in his/her journey. Through programs and fellowship, the group offeres the opportunity for the development of friendships, supportive relationships and a place to worship and learn. Many outreach programs are generously supported by this group. Pathfinders
9:40 a.m. G227
Couples ages late 20’s to 40’s, desiring to grow stronger in their relationships, with a specific focus on improving their relationship with God. Led by Kurt Cradic in discussion-oriented topics which are applicable to daily life. Frequent social activities include family and friends. Active in many mission projects. Renaissance Class
9:40 a.m. G228
Designed specifically for young couples in their 20’s and early 30’s, this class seeks to explore Scripture each week. Weekly lessons focus on applying Scripture to everyday life. Fellowship activities draw class members together. This class is very involved in mission projects. Contact person: Clay Lawson, David Hatcher, Steve Reeves.
Seekers Class
9:40 a.m. G122/123
A class for older adults that meets for bible study and discussion. This group is very supportive of a variety of mission projects: Society of St. Stephens, Feed My Lambs, Room to Grow, UMARMY and Methodist Children’s Home in Waco. Contact person: Ralph Garner.
Single Moms
9:40 Room K102
This Sunday School Class addresses the issues facing single mothers using the curriculum, "Hope and Help for the Single Mom." Because each lesson stands alone, mothers can join the class at any time. For information, contact Shannon Hopkins
Wesley Class
11:00 a.m. G222/223
The Wesley class is composed of both singles and couples age 50+ who enjoy Bible study and good fellowship.
Led by Tom Mangum, the class offers a variety of Bible studies and is currently focused on a 30 week study based on “Jesus In The Gospels”
Social activities are varied and well attended. Examples are: a fish fry, Christmas party and a Mardi Gras dinner. The class actively supports the Society of St. Stephen, Methodist Children’s Home, Room to Grow, Young Life Mission and UMARMY among others. Women at the Well Sunday School Class
9:40 a.m. G121
Women of all ages are invited to join this group as they pray for each other, study scripture and find practical applications for living out their faith. The group has great fellowship prior to class each week and supports Pharr Community Outreach and a ministry with women in prison. Contact person: Melanie Cheairs.
