Emmaus
The Walk to Emmaus is a program that is intended to provide an environment for spiritual renewal. The Emmaus movement has been created and adapted to strengthen the local church through the development of Christian disciples and leaders. The program's approach seriously considers the model of Christ's servanthood and encourages Christ's disciples to act in ways appropriate to being "a servant of all." Spiritual awakening is often experienced by those who attend which often results in renewed interest in serving God through their local congregation. A greater resolve to seek to follow God’s will in every aspect of their lives is often felt.

The Walk to Emmaus begins with a 72-hour short course in Christianity comprised of fifteen talks by lay and clergy on such themes as God's grace, spiritual disciplines of Christian life, and what it means to be the church. The weekend also includes presentations dealing with subjects like setting priorities, how to improve your knowledge about God, how to serve God in everyday settings, how to be a disciple, and how to persevere in faith. The course is wrapped in prayer and meditation, special times of worship and the celebration of Holy Communion. There is plenty of good food, fellowship, and a chance for all persons to find what they need for a life in Christ. Persons should expect their relationships with Jesus Christ to be deepened and their enthusiasm for serving Christ to be renewed. The "Emmaus community," made up of those who have attended an Emmaus weekend, support the 72-hour experience through prayer and other acts of love and self-giving. The Emmaus Walk typically begins at 7:00 p.m. Thursday evening and concludes at 7:00 p.m. Sunday evening. During this time no contact is made to families and businesses except in emergencies. Those who go are expected to commit to being involved in the entire experience. Men and women attend separate weekends.

During and after the three days, Emmaus leaders encourage participants to meet regularly in small groups. The members of the small groups challenge and support one another in faithful living. Participants seek to Christianize their environments of family, job, and community through the ministry of their congregations. The three-day Emmaus experience and follow-up groups strengthen and renew Christian people as disciples of Jesus Christ and as active members of the body of Christ in mission to the world.
