Caring Ministries
Members in Ministry
Based on our understanding that all Christians are ministers of Christ ordained through their baptism, we encourage and expect every member to be in ministry. Each Fall (or when a new member joins), as part of our stewardship emphasis, our members use the Ministry Mobilization form to indicate the areas in which they would be willing to serve. Through this process, each person becomes part of the growing number of members who find satisfaction in serving Christ and His church in a tangible way.

Serving Hearts
Serving hearts is a lay led ministry to offer loving assistance with short term needs. Persons have volunteered to cook meals, provide transportation to doctor's appointments, sit with shut-ins on a very limited basis, or pick up prescriptions etc. for homebound persons. Please call Anita Haun at (281) 358-0725 to volunteer or to find out more information about this program.
Caring Baskets
Randy and Linda Creech and their loving teammates prepare baskets for our shut-ins and homebound members twice a year. They are always appreciative of donations of baskets, new lotions and similar items, stamps, greeting cards, and cash. Please call and find out how you can also help by assembling or delivering these items and be blessed by the wonderful reception you will receive from those who will experience God's love through your efforts.
New Member Sponsors
When persons decide to become members of the KUMC community of faith a sponsor comes forward who will help them to become more deeply involved in the life of the church. A sponsor typically stays in contact with the person or family for about six months. Please contact Melinda Dodd at (281) 358-2137 to find out how to serve in this role in our church family.
Grace Groups
Grace groups formed originally in the late 80’s and have been a support to those overwhelmed by life ever since. This is a 12 week Bible study that moves us from brokenness to healing and hope. The church is the organism created by God to minister truth and love, and this is the function of a Grace Group ministry. The truth cannot be sidestepped. It must be presented to victims in such a way that they acknowledge what has happened to them and see that within the context of the love of Christ, they can become whole as they deal with the issues and events which have numbed them to life. A major breakthrough comes when a victim can call evil, evil, and good, good (Isaiah 5:20).

“Building up one another in love” is a group process – and that’s what happens in a Grace Group.

Here at KUMC we have a Grace Group for women that meet on Wednesday mornings in Room G 226 from 9:30 until 11:30. A new session will begin on September 9. You can register by calling Paula Cade at 281-358-2137 or Laura McPherson at 281-540-1470.

Support Groups at KUMC
At various times in our lives, situations arise for which we could use the support of others in similar circumstances. Or sometimes we may be in an on-going situation which affects our lives. There is help for you, no matter what your problem. The following are some of the means of support available:

There are two support groups for those fighting sexual addictions which meet here at the church. One meets on Saturday mornings and one on Wednesday evenings. Please call Paula Cade for more information about the gender of these groups and also meeting places and times or email her at paula.cade@kingwoodumc.org.

For persons in need of help with co-dependency, a group meets on Monday evenings here at the church. Please contact Paula Cade for more information about meeting location and times or email her at paula.cade@kingwoodumc.org.

A support group meets at Kingwood United Methodist Church on the third Thursday of each month for parents of homosexual persons who need someone with whom to talk. Paula Cade has more information and can be contacted at the church or at the above mentioned email address.

A new support group has formed for Parenting Prodigals which seeks to provide a place for parents whose children have gone astray to come together for one another. This support group meets at KUMC on the first and third Monday night of each month at 7:00PM in room G224/225. You are invited to join with others who understand and who are exploring ways to cope with this situation in their lives. In this group, confidentiality is respected. If you want further information, call Paula Cade at the church.

There are many other support groups in the area and more information about many of these can be gained by contacting Paula Cade at (281) 358-2137 or by email.
