School for Little Children: KUMC's weekday ministries program has been providing families in the Kingwood community with early childhood care and education since 1975. The School for Little Children includes a Preschool program and a Mother's Day Out program and is committed to the development of the whole child. Teachers are dedicated, skilled, experienced and receive educational training throughout the year. They strive to help each child develop and grow emotionally, socially, physically, intellectually, creatively and spiritually. The classroom environment is non-pressured and includes developmentally appropriate curriculum. Active learning, problem solving and happy, accepting relationships all work together to provide a positive experience away from home and excitement about learning in a structured environment.

Safe Sanctuaries Policy: All persons working with children at Kingwood United Methodist Church are required to complete a Safe Sanctuaries application which includes a criminal history and reference check, and are required to take a Safe Sanctuaries Policy test.

Calendar:  We follow the Humble ISD calendar of holidays.  

Registration: The School for Little Children provides nurturing care and education for children ages 6 months through 5 years old. (Your child must be 6 months old by September 1.) Registration occurs in the Spring for both the Summer session and the following school year.

REGISTRATION FOR THE  2012-2013 SCHOOL YEAR

Registration for KUMC members will be held on Sunday, February 26, 2012 from 9:00 am to 12:30. Current SLC families may register on Februrary 27-28th from 9:00 am to 11:00. Open registration will begin Monday, March 5, 2012. All registration will take place in the E building. Mother's Day Out classes are available for children from six months to two years old. Currently classes are held on Mondays, Tuesdays, and/or Thursdays from 9:00 am to 2:30 pm. These young children experience God's love in a nurturing environment that facilitates a trusting child/teacher relationship. The daily routine includes time for individual play and group activities (singing, dancing, stories, puppets and finger plays), active outdoor play (or a stroller ride for infants), snack, lunch and nap time.

Our preschool classes are available for three-year-old and four-year-old children from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm. A variety of class schedules are available including extended day classes which last until 2:30 pm. Low teacher/child ratios create a non-pressured environment where self esteem is nurtured and creatively encouraged. Each day's schedule revolves around a selected theme. There is a time for block building, singing, listening to stories, exploring nature, drawing, painting and developing self-help skills. Children also participate in Music and Motor Skills activities in our gymnasium and Special Moments in the sanctuary on a weekly basis. A typical classroom is a busy, noisy, happy place where hands-on experiences are the primary learning tool.
