The membership of KUMC recognizes that God is the Great Provider of all of life. We have responded to the call of Jesus Christ to receive the gift of salvation and to become disciples. Individuals who profess faith in Jesus Christ come to understand that stewardship extends to all of life, including intellectual abilities, spiritual gifts, possessions and the time we are given. We believe all Christians are equipped to be instruments of God by inviting all persons to experience the Power of Jesus Christ.
The KUMC community of faith, steeped in the Wesleyan tradition guided by the Holy Spirit, responds to life in the following way:
- We express our commitment to God through our Presence. Believers assemble together for worship, study and fellowship in a variety of activities and classes. We learn how God seeks to respond to all who seek New Life, who value relationship with God and each other. We also learn how to live an abundant Christian life with a focus on serving Jesus Christ in each of our daily lives and communities.
- We express our trust in God through our Prayers. All who attend KUMC are encouraged to pray together in worship, classes and gatherings. We share the joy and experience of the Lord’s Prayer regularly. Among other opportunities are prayer groups and intercessory prayer by trained volunteers. We further learn that prayer is vital to successful Christian living, and learn the discipline necessary to engage God at any time, place and circumstance.
- We express our trust in God by our Gifts. One of the more powerful ways of personal commitment to Christ is a financial gift that enables the Church to minister to human, spiritual and emotional needs. Financial commitments are vital in the spreading of Gospel to domestic and foreign communities. These gifts afford the ability to experience quality worship, relevant teaching and programs that nurture children and youth.
- We respond to the leading of God by our Service. The KUMC community lives out a desire to reach other persons with the love of Jesus Christ. This is evident through the time given to the annual UMArmy. It is present by the countless hours of reaching out to the marginalized and economically challenged through the Society of St .Stephens. It is experienced in the time believers invest in the lives of others through the Kairos ministry. The Community at KUMC seeks to grow new opportunities that allow all to experience what God can do with faithful response.
- We commit our lives as a Witness to God. The community of faith at KUMC acknowledges that our lives should reflect who we say we are in Jesus Christ. We strive to develop spiritual gifts that honor God, for the service to others. We actively share faith with all persons who will hear the Gospel. Believers offer themselves in a sacrificial manner, responding to human crisis with compassion and support. We seek and support equitable treatment of all human beings.
The Community of faith gathered at KUMC treasures who we are, and invites all to a meaningful life of purpose and discipleship. The more that is given in response to God, the greater the impact the Holy Spirit will have on all communities that are served.
