KUMC students is the student ministry for Kingwood United Methodist Church. We are committed to making students into disciples for Christ who are dedicated to REACHING, TEACHING, MAKING, and SENDING new disciples in their community and the world.
SOURCE 15. On Sunday mornings at 9:40am in The Loft, students meet as a church community to worship together. There is always breakfast and time to hang out before and after. Worship is led by the Youth Band and a message is given by Nick Robinson.
midWeek is our weekly Bible Study held on Wednesday nights. 6th-8th graders meet from 6-7pm in the Loft and 9th-12th graders meet from 7-8pm in the Loft.
SMALL GROUPS is a key element to making disciples. There are over a dozen small groups that meet throughout the week in various homes in the community and here at the church. Each group has anywhere from 3-12 students and is led by two adult volunteers. If you would like to get plugged in with a group, contact Nick Robinson.
CONFIRMATION is a 9-month program for 6th graders that focuses on helping students make connections with each other, learn about the church and being a member of the church, and most importantly, grow in their faith and their relationship with Jesus Christ. Led by Confirmation Coordinator, Cathy Parva, confirmation class is held every Sunday at 9:40 am in E-205 starting in Aug.and ending in May with the Confirmation service. Older students may participate in an 8-week Confirmation class held in the Spring.
CULTURE & THEOLOGY. Once or twice a semester we meet on a Sunday at 6:30pm in the Loft to discuss complex topics. We spend some time at the beginning teaching on the topic at hand. (Past topics have included: defending your faith, science and God, homosexuality, and a general forum on sex.) Then we answer questions. All who attend are given a phone number to text in their questions so that no one can be embarrassed about any of their questions or be fearful of speaking in front of their peers. Texting questions allows students who may be dealing with these sensitive issues to be completely anonymous without fear of judgement from anyone. Like all that we do, we invite parents and lay leaders to attend to ask your own questions or just to be a part of what our students are doing.
THIS OLD HOUSE is an annual mission project. 6th-8th grades are invited to be a part of this weekend-long community-outreach program held at the end of the summer. We sleep at the church, do work-projects during the day, and worship at night with some games thrown in there as well.
UM ARMY. Each summer Kingwood United Methodist Church organizes U.M. ARMY workcamps to provide home repairs to those who are in need of assistance. The focus of the camps is to serve others in the name of the Lord, to foster Christian fellowship, and to have time to worship together. UM Army is open to students who have completed at least one year of high school. Students are divided into work teams and have two adult leaders to guide them and supervise the work on clients' homes. Host churches in the towns served provide lodging, and adult volunteers from KUMC provide meals. All tools and building materials are provided by KUMC and individual donors. Adult volunteers are encouraged to be part of this life-changing week.
SIFAT. Students who have completed 6th-12th grade are invited to travel with us to Lineville Alabama for SIFAT's Learn and Serve camp in the summer. We get hands-on experience in third-world missions and walk away with practical tools for serving others.
COSTA RICA. Older high school students who have previously attended mission work camps may travel with mission teams to Costa Rica to assist the missionaries KUMC supports. Students help with building projects, VBS camps for local children, encouraging home/cell churches, and hosting special community events for children and teens.
CONCERT CARNIVAL. This annual event hosted by KUMC Students is a highlight of the year! Professional and local bands put on a great concert for the community at Town Center Park in Kingwood. This is a free event and includes lots of activities in the park.
