Scouting
Kingwood United Methodist Church has an active commitment to promoting Scouting as a quality program for the physical, mental and spiritual development of our youth and the youth of the Kingwood community. We recognize high standards of moral commitment within the laws of the scouting programs and applaud both the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts for applying the gospel message to another avenue of life "outside" of the church. Each spring we celebrate Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts on special Sundays. In 2007, Boy Scout Sunday will be celebrated on February 11th and Girl Scout Sunday will be held on March 11th.

Boy Scout Troop 1377
Boy Scouts of America, Troop 1377 is chartered by Kingwood United Methodist Church. Membership is open to any eligible boy regardless of religious affiliation. The troops membership ranges from 60 to 80 active boys and over 20 active adults in various leadership and support positions.

Troop 1377 is rich with resources and traditions developed through its 28 year history. The troop is here to provide boys with excellent opportunities to advance and grow as they journey towards becoming an adult. To this end, Troop 1377 is a "boy led" troop that allows the boys to plan and carry out their own program with the guidance and supervision of adult leaders. This allows the boys to grow in their planning, implementation and leadership skills.

Through rank advancement, merit badge work, meetings and campouts Troop 1377 knows how to have fun and how to help young men mature. During its more than 28 year history Troop 1377 has awarded more than 100 Eagle Scout ranks, the highest award in the Boy Scouts of America program. For more details click the link below. But the best way to find out if Troop 1377 is the place for you is to come to one of our meetings. Hope to see you there!

Venture Crew 1377
Our venture crew is made up of boys and girls from 14 to 21 years of age. They are structured differently than a troop in that they elect a president and the head adult leader is called an advisor. The Boy Scouts of America created these venture crews to offer youth a program within Scouting that is geared to the interests of older teenagers with the desire that these age groups would remain a part of structured activity programs longer. Venture crews are primarily centered around high adventure camping opportunities.
Girl Scouts
Lots of troops on lots of different levels use the church facilities. If you have need for a meeting space or are interested in joining in with our celebration of Girl Scout Sunday we would love to have you. If you are interested in offering the religious award program to your girls and need some insight please feel free to call Rev. Chris Harrison at the church office or email him at chris.harrison@kingwoodumc.org.
God and Country Religious Awards program
The God and Country Program is a set of programs for religious studies. These programs are built around a work book style of learning, following step-by-step lessons designed by some powerful prayer warriors in St. Louis, Mo. called, PRAY (Program for Religious Activities for Youth.) In these books, you can find activities that involve study, prayer, service projects, and a time of sharing religious values between a parent and a child and/or a mentor.

God and Me Award:
This award is grade specific for boys and girls who have not completed the 3RD grade. (BSA, GSA, 4H, etc.) This work book must be completed by the last day of the 3rd grade. This medal is especially valuable for the family that does not attend church but has begun to develop a relationship to God.

God and Family Award:
This award is suited for the 4th or 5th grade. It is centered around the idea of how your family fits into the larger concept of God's family found in the church. It is flexible enough to include the special legends and stories that make your family's beliefs precious in the mind of your child. This award is an excellent tool for a family to examine their walk with God.

God and Church Award:
Now your child is older and readying him or herself for membership in an organized fellowship (church) for the glory of God. This is usually the time of serious training for membership and choosing. This workbook requires that these nearly grown young persons attend a church regularly to observe and report on the goings on of regular service, committee meetings, examining closely the behind the scenes life of the organization that we call a church. This level of study also involves significant service to God's church.

This process creates a framework in which they can see their life as a ministry dedicated to the glory of God and what a "calling" is and/or is not. The God & Church work prepares the candidate to take up the yoke of service when they are called to whatever ministry they are called.

God and Life Award:
For grades 10 through 12, a young adult person examines their walk with God in a personal "one-on-one" way. It is the smallest workbook and the most challenging material requiring the highest level of commitment for a family. Delving deep in the scriptures, this program teaches as it opens windows in a young man or woman's soul that each youth is asked to look into and examine themself.
